Garlic Cheese Grits

2 1/4 cups water

1/2 cup grits

4 ounces mild cheddar cheese, grated

1 teaspoon minced garlic

2 tablespoons butter

1 egg, beaten

 

In a saucepan, slowly stir the grits into boiling water.  Reduce heat to medium low and cover.  Cook 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until grits thicken.  Add cheese and minced garlic.  Blend well.  Stir in the butter and egg.  Pour into  a buttered casserole dish and bake at 325 degrees for 20 minutes.
